Primary enrichment program testing


















Many SAGE math activities are designed around hands-on cooperative learning strategies. SAGE Reading students work with the SAGE teacher for approximately one hour per week and are provided differentiated instruction by their classroom teacher who works cooperatively with the SAGE teacher to meet their reading needs.

Guided reading groups provide students the opportunity to read materials and receive instruction on comprehension strategies based on their individual instructional reading level. The District offers a variety of options to meet the needs of highly capable students in grades Within these program options, our goal is to provide students with academic acceleration and rigor. There are two opportunities to refer students. The September Referral Process takes place September 1 through September 15 and is open to newly enrolled students to the district and currently enrolled students with some restriction.

The New Student Referral Process begins after the September Referral Process closes and continues for the remainder of the school year. It is open to new students who enroll in the school district after the September Referral Process window closes on September The September referral window for the school year is now closed.

Referrals from individuals will be accepted between September 1 and September 15 of each school year. Individuals including teachers, other staff, parents, students and members of the community may refer a student for consideration for the program.

Individuals making a referral must use the District provided online referral form. The link will be posted here and active beginning September 1 through September The following exceptions apply:. New students may be referred to the Highly Capable Program.

New student referral forms are available in the school office. Referrals for new students must be received within 10 days of the enrollment date. New students enrolling after the Highly Capable September Referral window closes who meet the screening criteria will be assessed prior to the beginning of the next school year. To qualify for the Highly Capable Program students will be screened in their kindergarten year for PEP service to begin in the winter of the kindergarten year and continue through 2nd grade.

Once students are identified in their 2nd grade year, they continue in the program through grade 12 unless they are exited from the program. Kindergarten screening and 2nd grade testing occur in the regular classroom within the school day. Typically, students who score in the top 2 percent or above qualify for Highly Capable Program services.

A multidisciplinary selection committee of qualified District personnel WAC ; reviews test results, approves selections for program services, and reviews appeals. This committee, operating within the constraints of the Washington Administrative Code, strives to consider the learning needs of every student, reviewing data to get as complete a profile as possible for selection and placement. No decision about selection or placement in programming is made unilaterally. The testing schedule can be found on the District Assessment Calendar.

Scores from both tests are considered when determining placement for the second half of the school year. Based on all Issaquah kindergarten students' scores, the district will identify its most highly capable students for selection into the program.

No decision about selection or placement in programming is made unilaterally. Decisions are made by a team of professionals who strive to ensure to the greatest extent possible fair and equitable consideration of all students in the Issaquah School District.

They meet regularly throughout the year. Students who were not selected in the winter of their Kindergarten year are not eligible for referral prior to the winter of their second grade year.
